Protester killed at Utah 'No Kings' rally was designer from 'Project Runway' shot by event security.

Authorities report that a rally in Utah, called the “No Kings” rally, turned tragic when Arthur Folasa A Lu, a fashion designer known for his appearance on “Project Runway,” was fatally shot. The incident occurred as the event known as “Peacekeeper” unfolded, during which a gunman allegedly fired into the crowd.

Arthur, a married father and the first Samoan designer on the popular Bravo show, succumbed to his injuries after being shot during a large protest in Salt Lake City against President Trump on Saturday, as per police updates.

“Initial investigations suggest that Ah Loo was at the protest and was an innocent victim, not the intended target,” the police stated.

The chaotic scene, which saw more than 10,000 attendees flee in panic, was initially treated as a straightforward shooting.

Police arrested Arturo Gamboa, who was found injured near an AR-15-style rifle. He faces murder charges and has been detained.

However, further investigations hint that Gamboa may not have fired the fatal shot. It appears that during the “peacekeeping forces” gathering, two individuals confronted Gamboa when he allegedly drew the gun from his backpack.

“The peacekeeping forces urged Gamboa to drop his weapon,” law enforcement reported.

Instead, Gamboa raised his rifle and ran toward the crowd, weapon in hand. In response, one peacekeeper discharged three rounds. Unfortunately, one shot hit Gamboa, while another struck Ah Loo.

Investigators are continuing to probe into Gamboa’s and the peacekeepers’ actions without yet identifying those involved or clarifying their roles at the event.

Known as “AFA,” Ah Loo was a beloved 39-year-old designer in Utah but had roots in Lotopa and Falelima, Samoa.

He made history as the first Samoan contestant on “Project Runway” in its 17th season in 2019 and also participated in “Project Runway Redemption.” Additionally, he created custom designs for the cast of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” and had the honor of showcasing his collection at Buckingham Palace during London Fashion Week at the invitation of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Utah representative Verona Mauga, who knew the designer, shared that he brought joy and creativity to the community. She mentioned, “He brought joy and laughter to the community and shared his art and talent with people very freely.”

“AFA’s presence in the fashion industry as a Samoan designer was significant,” she added. “He showed that someone from indigenous Hawaiian and Pacific Island heritage could make a mark in this space.”

Ah Loo is survived by his wife and two children, with his family setting up a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs.
