Helen Hunt Discusses Impact of Hollywood Beauty Standards on Mental Health

Helen Hunt recently opened up about how the rigid beauty standards in Hollywood have affected her mental well-being. The 62-year-old actress appeared relaxed and stylish in a bikini while celebrating her honor at the Towelmina Film Festival.

Hunt sported a striking yellow bikini top complemented by floral green bottoms, enjoying the sea after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the festival in Italy.

Earlier in her career, Hunt revealed, she grappled with feelings of “miserability and shame” rooted in her physical appearance, which made her feel disconnected from the industry’s expectations. “It felt nearly impossible not to internalize how others expected you to see yourself,” she reflected. “This led to a certain level of misery and shame for not conforming.”

She elaborated on how this mindset could quietly derail one’s life, leading her to decide to shift her focus. “I realized I didn’t want this to take up so much space in my mind,” she said. “The better it gets,” she added, inspired by a concept from a book by spiritual leader Sondrarei that encouraged her to embrace a more positive outlook.

“I learned to enjoy what I eat and savor every bite,” Hunt remarked, showing how she transformed her approach to both food and self-acceptance.
