Yankees squander another strong performance by Clarke Schmidt in frustrating pattern

Yankees’ Clark Schmidt Shines Despite Loss to Angels

Clark Schmidt showcased his talent on the mound Monday night, even as the Yankees faced a tough 1-0 loss against the Angels.

The 29-year-old delivered seven innings of shutout baseball, extending his impressive scoreless streak to 18¹/₃ innings.

“I feel pretty comfortable right now,” Schmidt remarked. “Instead of trying too hard, I’m focusing on controlling my game. My mistakes are getting finer and we’re really finding our groove.”

Schmidt’s last run given up was during the Yankees’ loss to the Guardians on June 4, where he first faltered.

He subsequently had a solid performance against the Royals last Wednesday, further solidifying his recent dominance on Monday.

Manager Boone commented, “He’s been terrific lately; it’s amazing how many good outings he’s had. His efficiency was top-notch, and even his mistakes were minimal. He’s really honed his skills.”

Despite his individual success, a troubling trend of insufficient run support has plagued Schmidt. His recent 6-3 victory over the Royals was among only four starts where the team managed to score more than a couple of runs while he pitched.

“It’s definitely frustrating,” Schmidt acknowledged. “It’s part of the sport, though. In a long season like this, you have ups and downs, but it can be tough.”

During Monday’s game, the Yankees had 11 chances to score but didn’t capitalize, leaving 12 runners stranded.

Schmidt remains optimistic about future opportunities for the offense.

“We know it’s a long season,” he said. “Sometimes the ball just doesn’t go where you want it, and other times, it finds every hole. I’m not worried. I trust the guys around me, and we know what we’re capable of.”
