Trump criticizes Macron for his 'attention-seeking' comments on the Israel-Iran ceasefire

On Tuesday morning, President Trump took a jab at French President Emmanuel Macron, claiming Macron inaccurately suggested he had returned to Washington from the G7 summit to enhance peace discussions between Iran and Israel.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Promotion seeking French President Emmanuel Macron said I would leave Canada’s G7 summit and return to DC to address a ‘ceasefire’ between Israel and Iran. I’m wrong!”

Trump further stated, “He doesn’t know why I’m on my way to Washington, but it certainly isn’t about the ceasefire; it’s much bigger than that. Emmanuel is always wrong, whether intentionally or not. Stay tuned!”

This exchange followed recent Israeli missile strikes on Iranian nuclear and missile sites that reportedly killed several high-ranking military leaders, to which Iran responded with counterattacks, escalating to five consecutive days of conflict.

During a G7 press conference, Macron remarked, “One offer was made to achieve a ceasefire, particularly to kick off broader discussions. We need to see if both sides will continue along this path.”

Last week, Macron mentioned France’s commitment to working with partners to address the Middle Eastern conflict, while also criticizing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

In the midst of this, Trump asserted he wasn’t pushing for a ceasefire, despite pressure from Republican donors regarding Israel’s actions. “I did not reach out to Iran in any form for ‘peace negotiations.’ This is highly manufactured fake news!” Trump stated in a Monday post.

He added, “If they want to talk, they know how to reach me. They should have struck a deal earlier; it would’ve saved many lives!!!”

On Monday, Trump urged evacuation of Tehran, criticizing Iranian officials for failing to sign an agreement aimed at dismantling the country’s nuclear program. “The United States stands for many great things, including preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Make America great again!!!” he expressed on his social platform.

He hasn’t dismissed the potential for US military involvement either.
