Boston Red Sox fans have been expressing their discontent on social media following the recent trade involving Rafael Devers. This sentiment emerged just after the Sox concluded a series sweep against their long-time adversaries, the New York Yankees, before sending Devers off to the San Francisco Giants.
It had been apparent for a while—especially after the team signed third baseman Alex Bregman—that Devers’s time was winding down. He ended up being used mostly as a designated hitter throughout the season.
Even with some evident tension within the team, Devers remains a key figure as the last player from the 2018 World Series Championship team, which has left many fans feeling let down.
The Newton police reported that the trade led to some members of the Red Sox organization being doxxed on social media, as a representative of the team noted. They mentioned they were aware of the situation but are not currently investigating any online threats.
While the Red Sox did not immediately respond to inquiries, reports suggest this situation has created a stir within the fanbase and in the broader baseball community.
Interestingly, after the trade, team executive Craig Breslow commented on the implications of the deal, implying that the team might actually have a better chance of winning more games moving forward. With the Giants absorbing the remaining $250 million on Devers’s contract, there are new financial opportunities available for the Red Sox. Breslow emphasized the importance of teamwork, suggesting that by focusing on shared goals, the players can elevate their game collectively.
