Anne Burrell Remembered After Sudden Passing
Celebrity chef Anne Burrell embraced life right up until her passing. Just five days before she died on June 17th at 55, Burrell made a heartfelt Instagram post, which turned out to be her last.
On June 12th, she shared a snapshot with Elizabeth Eton Rosenthal, affectionately known as the “Green Lady of Brooklyn.” Burrell wrote, “I encountered her in my neighborhood today!”
“I’m not going to lie; I’ve been keeping an eye on her,” she said, expressing her admiration for her new friend. “I might be chasing her down the street for a minute. She’s just lovely!!!”
Rosenthal, 84, has become a well-known figure in Brooklyn. She replied to Burrell’s post the following day, sharing that she had “so much fun” meeting her.
Rosenthal extended an invitation to Burrell, suggesting a visit to her garden when the figs were ready for picking, which usually happens in September. “All I can do is my fig tree, love, embrace coffee, and fig sanctuary,” she remarked.
Burrell’s family confirmed her passing on Tuesday morning at her Brooklyn home. While the cause of death has not been disclosed, a heartfelt statement highlighted Burrell as a cherished wife, sister, daughter, and friend, emphasizing the joy she brought to everyone around her.
“Her smile brightened up every room she entered,” they noted, adding that her spirit would continue to inspire many.
The Food Network, where Burrell had made a significant impact, also paid tribute. A representative described her as an “incredible person and culinary talent,” who taught and celebrated the joy of food.
Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, son Javier, mother Malena, sister Jane, and brother Ben.
