Trump doesn't intend to contact Gov Tim Walz following the Minnesota shootings: 'Why bother?'

Trump Declines to Contact Minnesota Governor After Shootings

On Tuesday, President Trump stated that he has no intention of reaching out to Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz following recent targeted shootings involving two state lawmakers.

“The Governor of Minnesota is in a tough spot. I’m not calling him. Why should I?” Trump remarked to reporters aboard Air Force One after returning from the G7 Summit in Canada on Monday night.

“Honestly, I think he’s pretty confused. If I were to call him, it would just be wasting time, wouldn’t it?”

In response to the tragic events that unfolded on Saturday, Trump called the violence “terrifying” and insisted it should not have a place in the United States. However, he has refrained from offering any words of support or reconciliation to Governor Waltz regarding the tragic circumstances in his state.

The alleged shooter, Vance Bolter, reportedly posed as a police officer over the weekend before committing the act that resulted in the deaths of Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Following this, he proceeded to the home of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, where he killed her and her husband, Mark, according to law enforcement.

Bolter was apprehended after a substantial manhunt that took place near his home, marking one of the largest in Minnesota’s history.

Trump’s reluctance to reach out to Waltz comes just weeks after a former vice presidential candidate suggested that Democrats should be more aggressive, urging them to “be a little mean” in their approach. This was met with applause during his remarks on May 31.

After the shootings, Waltz shifted his tone and called for leaders to act with “greatness and compassion,” stating, “This isn’t how we handle political disagreements.” He urged everyone to uphold the core values of the nation, encouraging discussions and attempts to find common ground among neighbors.
