Investigation into Oklahoma Grandmother’s Abuse Allegations
A year-long investigation has revealed disturbing accusations against a grandmother in Oklahoma. It’s alleged that she forced her grandson to take drugs and even locked him in a dog cage for hours.
Davena Marx, 53, stands accused of abusing two grandchildren, ages eight and six, by administering antipsychotic medications and physically assaulting them. Allegations include whipping them with a belt, causing harm to their heels, and forcing them to exercise to the point of exhaustion.
Charges have been filed against Marx for child abuse and negligence, based on reports from various local news outlets.
One child recounted to investigators that “Memaw sells drugs and uses them,” describing a life of fear in their home in Waracre, stating, “She keeps us in our dog cage.”
The boy alleged that Marx gave him Seroquel—a medication intended for those over 13 years old—leading to serious concerns about safety. Traces of the drug were reportedly found in both grandchildren.
Social workers from the Department of Human Services launched welfare checks last year after receiving abuse-related tips. One of the children texted a social worker, claiming, “She’s mean to us, she’s very abusive.”
Upon identifying the alarming situation, authorities quickly removed the children from the home. They were subsequently taken to a secure clinic where they underwent evaluations for suspected abuse.
It was noted that one child had bruising on his back, and both children described physical and emotional abuse, including being forced into strenuous exercise.
Reports indicated that a neighbor had seen the children rummaging through a dumpster for food, raising further alarms about their living conditions.
Deputy Police Chief Jason Allen mentioned that Marx was arrested in May following comprehensive interviews. He noted that the day officers visited the residence was enough to justify immediate action, although such circumstances aren’t always sufficient to remove children.
A search of Marx’s apartment revealed marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and prescription bottles for alprazolam and Seroquel. Investigators found a large dog cage in the residence, supporting the children’s claims.
Interestingly, according to a GoFundMe post, Marx had taken custody of her grandson in 2022 after a tragic incident where his father was shot during a road rage altercation.
