Amazon’s New Biblical Drama on Joseph
Amazon is expanding its biblical drama offerings with a new series centered on the life of Joseph. This initiative is part of a broader effort led by I Was Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins. Recent reports indicate that there’s further detail on a previously announced project titled Joseph of Egypt, which Jenkins will executive produce alongside filmmaker Craig Wright.
Amazon MGM Studios is collaborating with 5 & 2 Studios for this series.
The storyline explores Joseph’s journey, detailing how he was betrayed by his jealous brothers and yet rose to power in Egypt. However, as his past resurfaces, he faces profound challenges.
Amazon’s streaming service is positioning itself as a primary destination for faith-based family content. As of February, it has been home to significant series like David’s House and Ring of Power. Additionally, I Was Chosen, which has a 90-day exclusive release window on Prime Video after theatrical showings, adds to its lineup, along with an upcoming series featuring outdoor adventures.
The final seasons, 6 and 7, of I Was Chosen are expected to air between 2026 and 2028, cementing its status as one of the most popular faith-based entertainment projects of contemporary times. Jenkins isn’t stopping there, having announced plans for three additional live-action series, including those centered on Moses and another project tied to the Chosen theme.
During an event in Orlando last year, Jenkins shared insights about the new series, indicating that stories of Joseph and his father, Jacob, were significant long before Moses received the Ten Commandments. He emphasized the interconnectedness of these narratives, suggesting they ultimately lead to understanding Jesus.
The series is planned as a limited eight-episode run. Jenkins mentioned plans to delve into the backstories of Jacob, Rachel, and Leah, as well as the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
