Razorbacks Fall Short to LSU in NCAA College World Series
On Wednesday night, the Arkansas Razorbacks were, well, one step away from forcing a rematch with the LSU Tigers in the NCAA College World Series, but they needed a win to stay in contention.
Unfortunately for them, left fielder Charles D’Abaran made a crucial error in the outfield that could have spelled the end of their hopes. This mistake, rather costly, essentially paved the way for LSU to secure their place in the Championship Series.
During the critical moments, Tigers right-handed batter Louis Hernandez hit a powerful pitch straight to the left field at an impressive 104 mph, but it went straight towards D’Abaran. In a surprising turn, he slipped, seemed to misjudge the ball, and it ended up bouncing off his shoulder, rolling towards the wall.
As if that wasn’t enough to stir the excitement, LSU had runners on first and second base, and they both managed to score, tying the game at five.
The Razorbacks had just taken the lead in the ninth inning thanks to a 2-RBI single by Justin Thomas to left field, but the tide quickly turned.
Jared Jones was the one who tied the game first with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. Then, he stepped up again, hitting a line drive that got past second baseman Cam Kozir, allowing Hernandez to score in a dramatic walk-off fashion.
The celebration for the Tigers was lively, while it felt surreal for Arkansas, who didn’t manage to force a rematch. D’Abaran, understandably emotional, was seen being consoled by his teammates as they took in the moment on the field.
As for the Tigers, they now have their sights set on facing Coast Carolina, who defeated Louisville 11-3 to clinch a spot in the final three games, aiming for their second national title in three years.
