Majority of Democrats Favor New Leadership, Poll Reveals

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, released on Thursday, indicates that many Democrats are calling for new leadership within their party.

According to the poll, a significant 62% of Democrats who participated expressed agreement with the notion that “Democrat leaders should be replaced by new people.” In contrast, only 24% disagreed, while the remainder were either unsure or did not respond.

Interestingly, just 30% of Republicans felt their party needed new leadership, highlighting a disparity in sentiment between the two groups.

Some Democrats noted that current priorities might not align with what voters consider essential. For instance, only 17% supported allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports, while a mere 28% viewed party leadership as a priority.

“Voters are very anxious right now,” remarked Mark Riddle, president of the democratic research firm Future Malome. “They want elected officials at all levels to address the cost of living and everyday affordability issues.”

Moreover, Benjamin Villagomez, who identifies as transgender, shared thoughts about focusing on more immediate concerns affecting livelihoods rather than issues related to gender identity.

This poll comes amid various surveys reflecting dissatisfaction with party leaders and concerns about the Democrats’ future prospects.

There are also mixed sentiments among some prominent Democrats, who have described the party as “weak and awakened,” and expressed uncertainty about the potential to reclaim control of the Senate in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey included responses from 4,258 individuals nationwide, conducted between June 11th and 16th, with a sample size of 1,293 Democrats. The margin of error for Democrats is approximately 3 percentage points.
