Zach Edey Suspended Following Speeding Incident
Zach Edey, the 7-foot-4 center for the Memphis Grizzlies, has reportedly been suspended in Indiana for allegedly speeding in a 55-mile-per-hour zone earlier this month.
According to online records, he faces charges of reckless driving and is set to appear in court next week in Tippecanoe County. Edey was recorded traveling at 101 mph on Indiana 25 on May 1. A police affidavit was cited in a local report.
Edey claimed he was attempting to pass another vehicle at that time.
The Canadian player was the ninth overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft after a standout college career, during which he was named the Naismith Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons.
Recently, he underwent ankle surgery, which could delay his return for the start of the 2025-26 season. This procedure followed a sprain he suffered during offseason training. The Grizzlies announced that he will be reevaluated in four months.
Edey previously missed 12 games due to another ankle injury, but he managed to play 66 games last season, starting in 55 of them.
The Grizzlies ended their season as the eighth seed in the Western Conference but were eliminated in the first round by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are vying for their first championship since relocating from Seattle.
