Damon Arnett Gets Another NFL Opportunity
Damon Arnett, a 28-year-old cornerback, is receiving another shot in the NFL. The player, who was let go by the Raiders in 2021, faced significant troubles when he posted a social media video brandishing a weapon and threatening someone. However, he signed with the Houston Texans this past Friday.
Arnett, a first-round draft selection in 2020, encountered legal issues, including a hit-and-run, shortly before deleting that controversial video.
At the time, GM Mike Mayock noted, “From my perspective, he’s a very talented young man with a good heart. If he cleans up his life, I believe he can earn a living in the NFL.” Unfortunately, Arnett’s difficulties persisted, and he found himself incarcerated in Las Vegas in January 2022—just nine days after inking a futures contract with the Chiefs—for multiple charges, including assaults with a deadly weapon and firearms offenses.
Clark County officials later dropped aspects of the case, leading to a plea deal related to the weapons charges.
In February 2024, he faced more trouble, adding to the string of gun-related incidents.
Reflecting on his past, Arnett mentioned, “I had to look in the mirror.” He expressed to KPRC in May that he needed to make substantial changes in his life, emphasizing the importance of a supportive network during his transformation. He remarked, “Navigating a new world without experience can be quite dangerous.”
Arnett, who played his college football at Ohio State, caught the eye of NFL teams with his performance during the 2025 season in the UFL, where he recorded 19 tackles and several sacks and interceptions. This performance evidently piqued the Texans’ interest.
He described the previous spring football season as “the best version of myself I’ve ever been.”
Yet, his legal challenges are not entirely behind him. Earlier this month, a court ordered Arnett to pay $78,000 to a dancer after she accused him of assaulting her during an incident in March 2023.
As the Texans commented to ESPN, there has been “no comment” regarding his legal history.
