New Hampshire Enacts Law to Shield Sig Sauer from Lawsuits

Legislators in New Hampshire have enacted laws aimed at offering additional protection to Sig Sauer amid ongoing controversies surrounding the P320 pistol.

Gun manufacturers in the U.S., including Sig Sauer, already benefit from certain legal protections under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).

The scope of the PLCAA is somewhat limited, as it shields gunmakers from lawsuits related to crimes committed with their legally manufactured and sold firearms.

Partial conditions of the PLCAA state:

Companies in the U.S. participating in interstate and foreign transactions involving legally designed, manufactured, marketed, or sold firearms or ammunition should not be liable for wrongful allegations stemming from misuse by others, including fatalities associated with those products.

The recent legislation in New Hampshire is aimed at further shielding Sig Sauer from legal challenges.

Reports suggest that Sig Sauer advocated for the new law’s passage. Bobby Cox from Sig Sauer told New Hampshire’s lawmakers that the issue gained traction in Congress and was signed shortly after being approved by Governor Kelly Ayotte (R).
