Jojo Siwa Discusses Coming Out Experience
Jojo Siwa, the 22-year-old former “Dance Moms” star, recently opened up about her experience coming out as a lesbian, expressing that she felt a certain “pressure” to identify that way. This insight was shared in an interview set to be published on June 20th in You Magazine.
“When I came out at 17, I declared, ‘I don’t care, I’m pansexual,'” Siwa explained. “But, I ended up labeling myself as a lesbian. I think that was influenced by external pressures.”
She articulated feeling pressured both from acquaintances and people within the LGBTQ+ community. “From people I know, and past partners, it creates this impression. You say, ‘Oh, I’m a lesbian,’ and suddenly, it feels like that’s the box you must stay in. But honestly, sexuality can be fluid.”
Siwa, who initially identified as a lesbian, reflected on her journey during her time on “Celebrity Big Brother UK.”
She told fellow contestant, Danny Beard, “I feel sort of strange, you know? I’ve always thought of myself as a lesbian, but here I am thinking, ‘I’m not a lesbian, I’m just different.’ And that realization is pretty cool.”
“I dropped the L and went with Q, baby!” she added, talking about her evolving understanding of her identity.
Recently, Siwa confirmed she is dating Chris Hughes, a star from “Love Island UK.” The two met while participating in “Celebrity Big Brother UK,” and there have been rumors suggesting that their relationship may have contributed to Siwa’s split from her previous partner, Cath Ebbs, during the show’s finale afterparty on April 26th.
In an intense TikTok post following their breakup, Ebbs, who identifies as non-binary, shared her thoughts, saying, “From Christopher’s perspective, I’m not sure,” hinting at the complexities surrounding the situation.
Siwa later elaborated on her relationship with Hughes in an interview published on June 2nd, saying, “It’s not just platonic anymore; it’s a beautiful development, a connection. I’m really drawn to him, and he feels the same.”
As for what’s next, there are still some unanswered questions, particularly from Ebbs’ perspective. “I have my thoughts,” she remarked in the TikTok clip. “But I’ll keep them to myself for now. Their journey is theirs—enjoy it,” she concluded.
