Justin Verlander and Kate Upton have celebrated the arrival of their second child together.
A representative for Upton confirmed to TMZ that the couple welcomed their son, Bellamy Brooks Verlander, on Thursday.
As for Verlander, the 41-year-old was placed on paternity leave by the Giants right before their game against the Red Sox on Friday.
Rumors regarding 33-year-old Upton’s pregnancy began circulating in January when she was spotted on the beach with Verlander, prompting media speculation.
Verlander and Upton have been together since 2014, eventually marrying three years later in Tuscany, Italy. Their first child, Genevieve, was born in November 2018.
Drafted as the second overall pick by the Tigers in the 2004 MLB draft, Verlander is now in his 20th major league season and holds the distinction of being the oldest active player in the league.
Though he has made 11 starts for the Giants this year, Verlander, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, is still seeking his first win of the 2025 season.
His most recent outing was on Wednesday, where he allowed three earned runs over four innings against the Guardians, having recently returned from a month-long stint due to right pectoral muscle tension.
“It feels good to be back out there,” Verlander remarked to the press post-game. “I know I was a bit inconsistent, and I wanted to give the team a better chance to win, but I think things will get sorted out soon.”
This season has been particularly mentally challenging for Verlander as he works to find his rhythm. He mentioned, “I felt alright tonight.”
