Major, Impressive Bill Represents the Realization of the President's Goals

Senate Progress on Major Bill Ahead of Independence Day

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) spoke about a significant bill that he believes aligns with the president’s agenda. He noted that much remains to be accomplished in the Senate as they approach the July 4th deadline.

When asked to support the bill, Thune pointed out that the American public effectively endorsed it during the November elections. “This reflects the president’s agenda—the issues he campaigned on and what people voted for, including border security. We need to make lasting investments and provide the president with the necessary resources,” he mentioned.

Thune also emphasized that Trump had campaigned on extending tax relief and modernizing the military. He spoke about the need to prevent a potential $4 trillion tax cut and the importance of extending tax reductions for working and middle-income Americans, suggesting that the state can no longer maintain its existing spending path.

In discussing energy policy, Thune asserted that the bill aims to exert control over energy prices, which he asserted could help reduce inflation. “For most Americans, energy consumption is significant. Looking ahead, we face an incredible demand for affordable and reliable energy,” he noted, expressing confidence in their ability to achieve these objectives.

Thune reassured that the Senate is on track for a July 4th completion. “We always set achievable objectives,” he explained, clarifying that while they have various protocols to follow in Washington, they are making progress. “It may take some time, but I believe we’re ready to move forward next week,” he added.

He further mentioned that without setting deadlines, progress in Washington can stall indefinitely. “Big initiatives tend to drag out forever if we don’t push for completion. If we want this comprehensive bill to succeed, the Senate must take action, and we hope to do so in a way that allows the House to proceed smoothly,” he said. “Our timeline is set, and we’re committed to getting this to the president’s desk as quickly as possible,” Thune concluded.
