Bernie Sanders’ Tour Rolls On, But AOC is Absent

Bernie Sanders kicked off the latest leg of his “Fighting the Oligarchy” tour this weekend, but one notable figure was missing from the lineup.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s name was noticeably absent from the newly announced tour dates, shared on social media by the Vermont Senator on Thursday.

The duo had made headlines during a spring tour, fueling speculation about potential presidential ambitions from the Bronx/Queens representatives.

However, it seems that for now, AOC is steering clear of the spotlight. Instead, rising star and new squad member Greg Casar from Texas joined Sanders on the tour.

“This fight is between the billionaires and everyone else. And we organize everyone else,” Casar stated while promoting rallies in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma over the weekend.

It’s unclear whether AOC distanced herself voluntarily or if there was another reason for her absence.

A spokesperson for Sanders’ campaign commented on the situation, saying, “That’s the nature of the tour,” but did not provide further details.

The Ocasio-Cortez team has yet to respond to requests for comments regarding the tour.

AOC has faced backlash in the past for flying first class during her national tour, which did not sit well with some of her progressive supporters. Photos surfaced showing her departing a luxurious aircraft valued between $5 million and $7 million; chartering such jets can cost around $15,000 per hour.

Her first-class travel became a talking point on social media, especially after she was spotted heading to a Las Vegas rally. Critics noted the irony of her fighting against inequality while being perceived as living it up.

Locally, lawmakers have been called out for seemingly neglecting their districts amid discussions about various issues. A resident from Woodside, Lauro Vazquez, criticized, “Of course, it’s been canceled. Jets are too busy with private jets screaming about the ‘oligarch’.”

Another local, Gloria Contreras from Jackson Heights, remarked, “She’ll help if it gets her name on national issues. She’s about her and she draws global attention while ignoring her members.”

The post reported concerns regarding the effectiveness of the Bronx and Queens district offices, noting their limited availability and questioning their $1.9 million budget.

Recently, AOC has claimed to be more “present” in her district, attempting to focus on local issues while showcasing her efforts on social media with initiatives like hosting mobile office hours.

The tour aims to foster “real discussions across the United States” while addressing the influences of wealthy oligarchs in the nation.
