Philadelphia – The Mets’ Streak Continues
It’s becoming a pattern, almost like clockwork.
With Francisco Lindor on the field, the Mets seem to have a solid chance of winning.
Despite a challenging seven-game losing streak, he stands tall at 26-3. This slump vanished quickly, actually by the third inning on Saturday when Lindor blasted the first of three consecutive home runs for the Mets.
Following an 11-4 win against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, Lindor’s home run marked the Mets’ impressive streak of 28 games won, just shy of joining the ranks of some of the greatest records in MLB history, established by Carl Furillo in the early 50s.
The numbers might suggest a simple truth: when Lindor shines, the Mets typically come out on top.
In this game, once again, Lindor delivered. He shrugged off concerns about a broken pinky toe, finishing the day with two hits out of five at-bats, contributing a home run, two doubles, and three RBIs.
He stepped onto the field knowing the team needed a boost, especially after falling behind 3-1— a scenario they’ve faced too often lately. Lindor’s powerful hit drove straight to the depths of Citizens Bank Park, covering a staggering 406 feet against pitcher Mick Abel.
Shortly after, teammates Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto joined in, making history by becoming the first set of Mets hitters to achieve back-to-back-to-back home runs since Lindor, Nimmo, and Jeff McNeil did so in 2022.
This time, Lindor found success against left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks in the sixth inning, flipping the game when it was getting tense. With the Mets trailing, he smashed a double off the right-field wall, scoring two runs and moving the score to 7-4, perhaps easing the pressure off his team.
It’s hard to believe he’s just two weeks post-injury with his pinky toe. I wonder, though, if it might be wise for the Mets to give him a day or two off to recover fully.
Given how well he’s performing, it’s understandable why he wouldn’t want to miss a game.
