US targets Iran's nuclear facilities as Israeli envoy criticizes Iranian representative

US Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Sites Spark Tension

During a heated Security Council meeting on Saturday, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon condemned Iran’s UN representative, labeling them as “wolves disguised as diplomats.” This remark came shortly after the US targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow, with President Donald Trump announcing that they had been “completely wiped out.”

In response to the US military actions, Iranian Ambassador Amir Said Iravani urged for an “urgent meeting” of an unspecified security council, calling for immediate global scrutiny of the US’s actions. He characterized the US strikes as a blatant and illegal act of aggression, described as “planned and unprovoked,” and a serious breach of international law.

Danon, addressing allegations against Israel, made an impassioned plea in the council session, questioning how the representatives of a nation that funds terrorism could seek compassion from international bodies. “You are not a victim… you are a wolf disguised as a diplomat,” he asserted. After the US’s aggressive stance, he noted that Iran was trying to position itself as a victim to gain sympathy from the Security Council.

Following the US assault, a combination of bunker buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles was deployed against Iranian nuclear sites. Danon emphasized that Iran’s actions had long been a concern for the international community and accused them of leveraging victimhood to deflect attention from their threats.

Danon expressed gratitude towards Trump for the action taken, suggesting that it made the world a safer place. He criticized the United Nations for failing to address Iran’s escalating nuclear program and advocated for stronger measures against Iran to prevent threats against Israel and broader global security.

In contrast, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern about the US’s military escalation, cautioning that this could lead to a larger conflict with significant humanitarian implications. Guterres warned that the situation was precarious and urged all nations to adhere to international law.

Soon after the US strike, Iran retaliated with missile attacks targeting Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Haifa, causing extensive damage but, fortunately, no immediate casualties. Images from Israeli first responders highlighted destruction in several neighborhoods, with some structures severely damaged.

While Magen David Adom reported injuries among over 16 individuals, emergency services did not register any fatalities, largely attributing the lack of casualties to timely sheltering during the attacks. Tel Aviv’s Mayor remarked on the extensive damage but noted that human life was preserved, which was a relief.

As the tension escalated, Israel’s Homefront Command reinstated its emergency protocols, a reminder of the ongoing volatility in the region.
