Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest Sells Circle Shares as CRCL Prices Surge

Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest has made headlines by selling shares of Circle, with CRCL stocks experiencing a staggering nearly 250% increase since their debut.

On Friday, Ark sold another 609,175 shares across three of its funds, bringing in approximately $146.2 million, as noted in a trade alert reported by Cointelegraph.

This sale took place as Circle’s shares jumped to $240.3, marking a 20.4% rise, or 248% increase from the $69 price on the New York Stock Exchange observed on June 5th.

This latest transaction marks the third sale conducted by Ark in the prior trading week, accumulating to a total of 1.25 million CRCL shares and generating about $243 million based on the closing prices for those days.

Frequent Sales from ARK

Ark’s recent sales of Circle stocks included shares from three funds: the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW), and the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF).

The largest share offloading came from ARKK, which sold 490,549 shares. Meanwhile, ARKW and ARKF sold 75,018 and 43,608 shares respectively.

On Tuesday, the company made an additional sale valued at $45 million, following another sale of $52 million on Monday.

ARK’s Position as Circle Investor

Over the past week, Ark’s sales totaled nearly 29% of the 4.49 million CRCL shares acquired during Circle’s public launch on June 5th.

Despite their aggressive selling, Ark is still positioned as the eighth largest investor in Circle as of 3 PM on June 20th, according to Bloomberg Terminal data.

In the rankings, the largest holder of Circle shares is listed as a Beijing-based capital fund with 23.3 million shares, followed closely by General Catalyst Group Management and James Breyer with 20 million and 16.7 million shares, respectively.

As of June 20, Ark maintains ownership of $750 million in Circle shares, with these stocks representing 7.8% of the ARKW fund’s total holdings.
