Sunjay Kapur's wife and ex-wife join a prayer gathering following his passing at 53.

Remembering Sunjay Kapur

This past Sunday, loved ones gathered for a poignant prayer service for Sunjay Kapur, who tragically passed away at the age of 53. His death, resulting from a heart attack after an incident involving a bee, has left family and friends heartbroken.

Kapur, a notable figure in the global carpet industry and a close friend of Prince William, died on June 12 at Polo Field in Windsor, England. Just days after this incredible loss, his family came together at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi, India, to honor his memory with an emotional tribute.

The service was organized by his wife, Priya Sakdev, and attended by his ex-wife, Bollywood star Charisma Kapoor, along with their two children, Samaira and Kian. The atmosphere was somber, yet filled with love as family gathered to celebrate his life, including Kapoor’s sister, Karina, and brother-in-law, Saif Ali Khan.

Sakdev’s son, Azarias, was also present, adding a personal touch to the gathering. Everyone wore white as a sign of respect for the occasion, which came just after his last, heart-wrenching photos appeared online.

Before his untimely death, Kapur had taken a memorable photo with Jaysal Singh, the captain of the Sujang Indian Tigers polo team, who participated in the prestigious Queens Cup subsidiary final. In a statement posted on Instagram, it was noted how emotional the moments leading up to his passing were.

The polo club later reported that Kapur’s last moments were marked by panic; he reportedly exclaimed, “I swallowed something!” right before he collapsed. Subsequent investigations indicated that he suffered anaphylactic shock due to the bee sting, which ultimately led to his heart stopping.

Tributes have poured in for Kapur, with many remembering him fondly. “Rest in peace, Sunjay. Your unwavering spirit and dedication to the polo community will never be forgotten,” one tribute read.

At the time of his passing, Kapur was actively involved in games for a prominent security guard polo club in Windsor and was a well-known figure on the polo circuit, frequently playing alongside royals, including the Prince of Wales.

Last week, it was revealed that he had, perhaps in his final moments, expressed his distress over swallowing the bee—a stark reminder of how quickly life can change.
