In downtown Oklahoma City, a gunshot victim was discovered shortly after the Thunder celebrated their Game 7 victory against the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals. The incident occurred near the Paycom Center, just outside Scissortail Park, around 10:30 PM on Sunday. While the victim is expected to recover, one person is in custody, although no formal arrests have been made yet.
Officials suspect the shots may have been linked to a fight, despite the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the basketball game. A Fox 25 reporter, Grant Palmer, reported from the scene, noting a notable police presence right after the gunshots. He mentioned that while some fireworks were being set off, gunfire was clearly heard by people in the vicinity. Another Fox 25 reporter, Page Taylor, along with her photographer, also documented the chaos as they prepared for a live segment right after the game.
The Thunder secured their first NBA championship since relocating from Seattle, where they were previously known as the SuperSonics. Footage circulated online shows enthusiastic fans celebrating outside the Paycom Center, though authorities later instructed them to disperse.
League MVP Shy Gilgeous-Alexander was instrumental in the Thunder’s win, contributing 29 points, 12 assists, and five rebounds. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren also made significant contributions with 20 and 18 points, respectively, helping the team achieve this long-awaited victory.
