Yacht Incident on the Hudson River
A yacht with around 400 passengers crashed into a pier on the Hudson River on Saturday, resulting in injuries to several individuals.
The incident unfolded shortly after 4 PM when the vessel, named Timeless, was attempting to dock in New York City, according to various reports.
Authorities stated that a malfunction likely caused the yacht to collide with the jetty located at West 125th Street and the Henry Hudson Parkway.
The occasion was actually a birthday celebration for Zytin King, who turned 69. She recounted the chaotic moments, saying, “People were coming down the stairs when the boat suddenly rushed toward the dock. Some fell because there was no support to hold onto, and many were injured.”
A friend of King, identified as Monica Hale, shared her experience with CBS News, recalling, “We were told to go back inside, though we didn’t really listen. When the boat jolted, someone shouted, and everyone just went flying.”
King mentioned that she has celebrated her birthday on a boat for the past 25 years and had never experienced anything like this before.
Reportedly, about 35 individuals suffered minor injuries due to the collision, with 23 requiring treatment at a local hospital. All 352 passengers were safely escorted off the yacht after the incident.
Despite the chaos, party caterer Delores Mitchell remarked that the celebration continued with some festivity. “I heard people say they were heading to the ambulance, but we had a good time,” she noted, mentioning that no serious injuries occurred. There were plans to relocate the party to another space where a DJ awaited.
The U.S. Coast Guard is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
Onlookers at a nearby park observed the yacht’s difficulties in docking. One witness, Franz Robinson, described the captain’s struggle, saying, “He couldn’t get close enough, then he drifted back into the water. After that, he came back and the boat tipped before it ultimately crashed.”
