Texas Lt. Gov. Patrick to speak on Abbott's decision to veto the ban on THC products

Texas Lt. Governor Criticizes Abbott’s Cannabis Bill Veto

Lt. Col. Dan Patrick, the Republican Lieutenant Governor of Texas, has expressed his frustration regarding Governor Greg Abbott’s recent veto of a cannabis-related Senate bill. This legislation aimed to ban certain THC products deemed dangerous.

On social media, Patrick remarked on Abbott’s silence during the legislative meeting, noting, “Through the legislative meeting, @gregabbott_tx remained completely silent on Senate Bill 3.” He elaborated that Abbott’s veto aligns with the support from many law enforcement officials and health advocates, and that it has left families feeling abandoned, particularly those who have suffered due to such substances.

“I really feel for those who shared their heartbreaking stories,” Patrick added, clearly affected by the personal testimonies he heard.

Although Abbott hasn’t publicly discussed his decision, reports indicate that he rejected 26 bills during a recent legislative session, including SB 3. The bill is scheduled for discussion in a special legislative meeting in July.

Abbott referred to SB 3 as having “good intentions” yet stated it could not be enforced due to constitutional concerns. He acknowledged that both sides of the debate expressed significant worries but emphasized the need for stringent regulations around hemp products to ensure safety.

The Texas Hemp Business Council, which opposed SB 3, issued a statement celebrating Abbott’s veto, claiming it protects numerous jobs and refutes misinformation. They praised the governor’s leadership in this matter, suggesting that his decision aligns with the interests of many Texans.
