Billy Joel’s Former Central Park Apartment on the Market
Once owned by the famous musician Billy Joel, a Central Park South apartment is now up for sale at a relatively modest price of $1 million.
This one-bedroom Prewar unit, situated at 128 Central Park South, was previously used as Joel’s office and studio. He lived in a massive 10,000-square-foot penthouse above it with his then-wife, supermodel Christie Brinkley.
Back then, the apartment functioned almost as an extension of their penthouse lifestyle.
Keith Hodges, a broker with Nest Seekers International, remarked, “Now, this legendary space on West 59th Street and Central Park South is ready for the next New Yorker to carry on the legacy of style, soul, and innovation.”
Brinkley recently reflected on her marriage to Joel in her autobiography, “Uptown Girl.” In it, she describes their deep love, youthful joy, and lasting friendship.
The couple, known for their daughter Alexa Ray Joel, married nine years before their divorce in 1994.
The apartment boasts an eat-in kitchen and ample storage space.
Joel had sold the unit in 2014 for $775,000. He also sold the penthouse last year for a substantial $11 million.
The kitchen in the listed unit features hardwood floors alongside large windows, while the main bedroom is equipped with an ensuite bathroom.
This building dates back to 1928 and showcases classic Italian Renaissance Palazzo style architecture.
Recently, Joel sold a gatehouse property on Long Island for $7 million. He’s also relisted his remaining “Middlesy” properties—a 14-acre estate—for a staggering $29.9 million. This flurry of real estate activity coincided with Joel undergoing physical therapy for a condition affecting his hearing, vision, and balance.
