Senate Moves Forward with Budget Adjustment Plan

The U.S. Senate is gearing up to pass the budget amendment referred to as the “big beautiful bill.” Senate Majority Leader John Thune mentioned that President Donald Trump had favored a deadline around July 4 for its progression, as indicated in a recent Breitbart News segment over the weekend.

Thune had initially disclosed in April that he was shifting the Senate’s focus regarding the timeline for this plan, especially with the July 4 target in mind.

During an interview, host Matthew Boyle inquired whether this meant the Senate could proceed before the July 4 holiday once the House acted. Thune responded that things were moving along, but it might not be next weekend, rather the one following it.

Boyle pressed for clarification on whether they still planned to have the bill out of the Senate by July 4. Thune confirmed this goal, emphasizing that it had always been a priority.

“I believe it’s feasible,” he stated, noting that the Senate’s operational rules differ from those in the House, which could cause some delays. He added that while some processes might take longer, they were preparing for a significant move in the near future.

Thune lamented the importance of deadlines in Washington, D.C. “From my experience, everything tends to linger without a set deadline, which can lead to endless delays,” he explained.

He reiterated the need for the Senate to act swiftly to finalize the bill, highlighting that they need to ensure a smooth process when it gets sent back to the House. He acknowledged the necessity for both chambers to pass the same legislation.

“That’s our timeline. We’re committed to it. Getting this bill to the president’s desk quickly is crucial,” Thune emphasized.
