Kevin Durant Critiques Emmanuel Acho’s Legacy Formula
Kevin Durant recently expressed his dissatisfaction with Emmanuel Acho’s “Legacy Formula.” Acho, a former Eagles linebacker and FS1 analyst, created this formula to assess NBA players’ legacies, and Durant’s standing didn’t fare well in it.
In a response posted on social media, Durant commented, “According to the great Kevin Durant legacy formula created in MIT’s best lab, Emmanuel is the worst linebacker of all time. You certainly want to ask this guy about greatness?” His tone was clearly pointed as he took a jab at Acho.
Acho’s Legacy Formula measures a player’s championships relative to the number of teams they played for during their careers. He explained, “How many championships did you win and how many teams did you need to play to do that? That’s your legacy.”
During a segment on FS1, the discussion revolved around whether Durant’s recent trade, marking him as a member of his fifth team in 17 years, impacted his legacy. Using Acho’s formula, Durant scored a mere 0.4, which is significantly lower than notable figures like Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, and LeBron James.
For reference, Duncan and Bryant each received a score of 5.0 due to their single-team careers and five championships. Although Durant has two championships with the Warriors, he has also played for the Thunder, Nets, Suns, and now the Rockets.
Despite the criticism from Acho’s formula, the 36-year-old Durant boasts an impressive legacy: he is a regular-season MVP, has two Finals MVPs, 15 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA selections, and has claimed scoring titles four times.
Acho argued that as Durant changes teams frequently, it may cast a shadow on how his career is remembered. He contrasted Durant’s moves to players like Jokic, Giannis, and Steph, who have stayed put.
Regarding Durant’s remark about him being “the worst linebacker of all time,” it’s worth noting that Acho only played two seasons in the NFL, participating in just 20 games.
