Chandler Jones, Former Football Player, Dies at 33

Chandler Jones, a former wide receiver who played for the San Jose State Spartans and later gained recognition in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes, has tragically passed away at the age of 33.

Jones was identified as the victim of a pedestrian accident that occurred early Sunday on the Marina Freeway in Los Angeles. According to reports from the local medical examiner’s office, he was struck and killed by a driver operating a Toyota RAV4.

The incident happened around 2 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene. “Forever in our hearts, #89,” was the heartfelt message shared by San Jose State Football on their social media platform, honoring him as a cherished member of the football community.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Jones became a record-holder during his college career, finishing with the highest receptions (248) and touchdown catches (31) in San Jose State’s history. Remarkably, he was the only player in the school’s records to achieve at least 50 receptions throughout all four of his seasons.

After completing his college journey, he returned to San Jose State in 2017 as a defensive assistant. A fellow coach reflected on his character, saying, “I coached for 50 years, and Chandler was exceptional. He brought a unique energy every day, showing a true passion for the game and being a wonderful teammate.”

The impact of his loss is felt deeply by those who knew him; it seems like no one would say a bad word about Chandler among his teammates.
