Aaron Rodgers is contemplating retirement again.

Aaron Rodgers is contemplating retirement again.

Let’s dive in. So, after a lot of buzz lately, Aaron Rodgers finally made it clear where he’ll be playing football next season: he signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But hold on—if you think this is the last we’re hearing from Rodgers this summer, you might want to rethink that. The veteran quarterback shared some thoughts on the “Pat McAfee Show” recently, claiming this will be his last season. He mentioned that he couldn’t imagine a better way to wrap it up than with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers.

He certainly has his own style of expressing things:

Ah, that “pretty sure” vibe.

Now, thinking ahead to December—let’s say the Steelers are in that .500 range, maybe even contending for a playoff spot. Tomlin has this way of being perceived as a villain that just won’t shake off, even with an aging quarterback who seems distracted. That could lead Rodgers to flip his narrative to, “I feel better than ever,” and suddenly he’s playing another season. It might still happen in Pittsburgh, or perhaps with another team that finds itself in the playoff mix next summer.

Honestly, it’s all a bit wearing.

Why’s that?

It’s because this isn’t new territory for us. Remember when Rodgers went into that darkness retreat during his time with the Green Bay Packers? He came out claiming he was “90%” ready to retire. But instead, he joined the New York Jets.

Now he’s hinted at retirement again after it seemed his time in New York was winding down, during the same “Pat McAfee Show” segment. He said, “I was honestly about where I was mentally and about some of the constraints I have in my life now.” That was in April, by the way.

Rodgers mentioned he was open to anything and not really tied down to any decisions. He noted there was still a chance to step back, but his current focus had shifted to his personal life—what he shared with his coach. The door was still ajar for conversation.

And now? Well, here he is with the Steelers again.

It seems different this time around. Maybe this time, after reportedly getting married while weighing his NFL future for 2025, Rodgers has decided to actually follow through with his retirement plans. Or, you know, he might find himself doing this all over again next summer.
