Frisco Teen Charged with Murder in Stabbing Incident
A teenager, 18-year-old Karmelo Anthony, was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Austin Metcalf in Frisco, Texas. The charges were formally introduced in court on Tuesday by a major judge after weeks of evidence being presented.
In a statement, an attorney indicated that the next steps in the legal process are underway, emphasizing their commitment to pursuing justice. They expressed readiness for the developments ahead, although the court’s timeline is still uncertain.
Metcalf’s father, Jeff, expressed a mix of relief and sorrow over the progression of the case. He noted, “It’s good to see movement, but nothing can bring my son back.” His hope is that justice will prevail through the judicial process.
In response to the charges, Anthony’s lawyer, Mike Howard, acknowledged that these proceedings are standard in felony cases. He stated that they anticipated these developments, underscoring the routine nature of legal steps in such serious allegations.
The incident occurred during a track meet on April 2, where a fight reportedly broke out between the two teens within a tent. Witnesses claim that during the altercation, Anthony brandished a knife and fatally stabbed Metcalf, who tragically died shortly thereafter, succumbing to his injuries while in the care of his brothers.
Eyewitness accounts described the moment leading up to the stabbing, stating that Anthony hinted at having a knife before the attack took place. Following the incident, he was apprehended by a school resource officer who observed blood on him, leading to his questioning and subsequent statement to the police.
Initially held on a $1 million bond, Anthony’s bond was later reduced to $250,000, allowing for his release under home confinement until further court developments. No trial date has been established at this time, and the family’s spokesman has not commented on the situation.
