NJ elementary teacher Laura Caron charged with sexually abusing a student and having his child at the age of 13.

A teacher from New Jersey has been charged with abusing a student over several years, and she’s reportedly giving birth to that boy’s child.

Laura Caron, 34, who used to teach fifth grade at Middletownship Elementary School, is accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual relationships with students who stayed at her home, according to officials from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

The allegations state that the abuse began when the boy was just 11 in 2016 and continued for four years until he turned 15 in 2020.

Throughout this time, Caron was working as a teacher at the same school.

Last year, the police launched an investigation after a tip came in. This tip was based on a post made by the victim’s father on Facebook, pointing out that Caron’s 5-year-old child resembled his son, as reported by court documents and Fox 29.

It’s been noted that Caron taught both the victim and at least one of his siblings.

As their families became friends, the victim and his brother often stayed at Caron’s home, initially just a couple of times a week, but then more frequently from 2016 to 2020.

According to court filings, the victim later confirmed to the police about the sexual relationship and identified himself as the father of Caron’s young child.

This child was born when the boy was only 13.

A friend of Caron shared with the New York Post that she even hosted a baby shower for the child, during which Caron remarked that the father was “outside the photo.”

Caron was arrested in January, and while charges were initially suspended last week, she now faces serious charges, including sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault, both of which can lead to substantial prison time. Additionally, she’s charged with risking sexual assault and child welfare.

The prosecutor’s office refrained from naming any children in their press release.

“These allegations are deeply intrusive, especially given the position of trust held by the accused concerning the victim,” said Sutherland. “Our office is committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and will continue actively to investigate and prosecute those who violate that trust,” he added.
