Ex-Democrat Hill Staffer Charged with Kidnapping and Assaulting Women Released After Posting Bail

Jeffrey Gary, a former employee associated with the Democratic party and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has been accused of assaulting two women following allegations of sexual assault.

As reported by Alxnow, Gary, who served as an assistant division chief at the FCC, was arrested and charged with assault and battery, sexual battery, and two counts of aiding and inciting relating to incidents that occurred on May 30. He was released on June 13 after posting a total of $14,000 in bonds.

According to Alexandria police, they apprehended Gary, who reportedly attempted to assault two different women near the entrance of a metro station.

Gary graduated from Georgetown Law and previously worked at the FCC until his arrest. In a statement, the FCC confirmed they took immediate action once the incident came to light, leading to the termination of his employment.

Before his time at the FCC, Gary briefly served as a staff assistant for Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell in 2015 and was also a law clerk for Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon from 2017 into 2018, per information from Legistorm.

Following his departure from the FCC, he started his own consulting firm, Gary Consulting.

Recently, Alexandria officials announced the arrest of Gary in connection with a violent incident near Braddock Metro Station. According to a press release from authorities, he assaulted a woman on the evening of June 1.

The incident occurred around 9:41 PM when a woman, in her mid-30s, was walking near the metro station. Gary allegedly approached her from behind, grabbed her, and attempted to assault her. Fortunately, the victim managed to resist and safely fled before calling 911. No weapons were reported to have been used during the attack.

Local officials quickly coordinated with Metro Transit Police to address the situation. They credited their efforts to the effective use of public safety cameras and collaboration with law enforcement in identifying suspects.

Eventually, with the help of Fairfax County Police, a search warrant was executed early in the morning, leading to Gary’s arrest. A judge has imposed specific conditions for his bail; he was placed under GPS monitoring and is required to undergo mental health assessments. Additionally, he is prohibited from being near the Braddock Road and Potomac Yard Metro Stations.

Alexandria’s Commonwealth attorney Brian Porter expressed opposition to Gary’s release and is pursuing appeals against the court’s bail decision, noting the legal presumption of innocence while emphasizing the ongoing nature of the case.

Gary’s next court appearance is set for July 7, where he will be represented by public defense counsel. Attempts to obtain comments from the offices of Senators Cantwell and Wyden, as well as from Alexandria’s public defense attorneys, were unsuccessful before publication.
