Kevin Costner refutes claims about a stuntwoman's 'unscripted rape scene'

Kevin Costner Faces Lawsuit from Stunt Woman Over Alleged Incident

Kevin Costner is currently involved in a legal battle with stuntwoman Devin Labella. She has accused him of staging a “violent, unscripted rape scene” on the set of “Horizon: American Saga – Chapter 2” without her consent.

Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, responded to Labella’s claims, asserting that she was rehearsing with an excerpt from the script that did not involve any sexual content. Singer stated, “There was nothing sexual about the intimacy or the shot.”

He further contended that various witnesses refute Labella’s allegations. According to him, she even expressed gratitude in a message after filming, stating, “I’m grateful for these amazing weeks.”

In a newly revised complaint submitted on June 18, Labella’s legal team claimed that the area where the scene was filmed lacked the presence of stunt coordinators or intimacy experts, which is unusual for such sensitive material. Labella testified, describing the experience as a “reckless violation of consent” and emphasizing the absence of any prior warning or rehearsal.

Labella detailed how, during the scene, she felt her “underwear was exposed” and described her feelings of shock after the incident. She insisted that compliance under duress does not equate to consent.

Text messages between Labella and the film’s intimate coordinator surfaced in the latest court filings. In these texts, she expressed her distress after the event, asking why there wasn’t an intimacy coordinator on set, given the sensitive nature of the scene.

This conflict escalates after Labella’s assertions that she was compelled to perform without proper notification or consent. She is suing for sexual harassment, discrimination, and the creation of a hostile work environment among other allegations.

Labella, who served as the lead stunt double for actress Ella Hunt, is seeking unspecified damages and has requested a jury trial. Costner’s legal representatives maintain that the claims lack merit and assert that Labella’s actions have had a damaging impact on her career.

The lawsuit details that Labella began working on “Horizon 2” in April 2023 and was previously involved in a different scene that had proper coordination. However, the next day, Costner allegedly improvised a new scene that led to the controversial incident without necessary arrangements.

In their defense, Costner’s legal team has expressed optimism that they will prevail in the lawsuit, underscoring the importance of the details they believe will clear their client’s name.
