Bernal Refuses to Testify on Biden’s Mental Health Concerns
Anthony Vernal, a former advisor to Jill Biden, has decided not to appear before the House Oversight Committee, raising questions about the alleged cover-up regarding former President Joe Biden’s mental health decline.
James Comer, the committee’s chair from Kentucky, issued a statement on Tuesday, noting that Vernal pushed back against an interview scheduled for June 26. This interview was part of an inquiry into potential misuse of the autopen for executive actions and pardons.
Comer remarked that now that the White House has relinquished executive privileges, it seems clear that Vernal doesn’t plan to be open about Biden’s cognitive health or the cover-up that followed. “With no privileges left to hide behind, Vernal seems scared to speak the truth. The American people deserve transparency and accountability; this obstruction won’t be tolerated,” Stockton added.
If Vernal continues to resist appearing, Comer indicated he would consider issuing a subpoena to compel his testimony.
Investigation into Biden’s Mental Health Grows
In a separate development, a letter revealed that the Trump administration won’t support claims of privilege for previous White House staff involved in the inquiry. Deputy lawyers for President Trump communicated with several former Biden aides, emphasizing that the claims of privilege don’t serve the national interest concerning issues investigated by the committee.
Concerns include whether senior aides facilitated covering up Biden’s mental fitness for public scrutiny, even keeping it hidden from less senior staff.
“Just yesterday, we had our first witness, Neela Tanden, who used to be the staff secretary. She controlled the autopen for Biden,” Comer noted. Tanden testified that despite her significant authority, interactions with President Biden were minimal. She indicated that she lacked direct involvement in communicating memos to get approval or decisions made in the president’s inner circle regarding autopen signatures.
This testimony brings up serious questions about who was actually making decisions in the Biden administration, especially given the president’s evident decline, Comer stated. “We will keep searching for the truth for the American people.”
Witness Testimonies Continue
As the House conducts further probes into claims of Biden’s mental decline, four key witnesses from the administration have been secured for testimonies, as they have agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
Comer’s office previously confirmed that Vernal’s team had agreed to participate in the June 26 interview. However, the White House informed Vernal that it had waived enforcement privileges concerning the committee’s investigation, leading Vernal’s team to retract their participation.
Comer’s office stated in a final note that the chairman had summoned three significant White House aides, including Vernal.
Despite the subpoena, it appears the Biden administration is attempting to block the investigation by denying the committee access to aides for interviews.
