Morikawa Unsettled with Reporter at Conference

Colin Morikawa expressed his dissatisfaction with Golfweek’s Adam Schupak during a press conference. The two-time major champion addressed the recent changes regarding golfers and their caddies.

Morikawa was quoted saying, “Listen to whatever you want at my press conference later, I’ll be with my pro-am partner now,” in Schupak’s report.

On Wednesday, Morikawa confirmed his decision to switch from caddy Joe Greiner, replacing him with former California teammate KK Limbhasut for this week’s Rocket Classic at the Detroit Golf Club.

When Schupak finally got a chance to ask about the sudden change, Morikawa responded somewhat curtly. “I won’t,” he said when asked at the British Open in July if he knew who his caddy would be. “I read your article. Look, I’m not here to tell you how to do your job, but I don’t understand why it makes me feel this way. I provided my quote before mentioning I was playing with my Pro-Am partner.”

Morikawa continued, “They pay a lot. They are crucial to the community and to the Rocket Classics. You gave that estimate and said, ‘Hey, wait two and a half hours.’ I mean, you called me at the first tee, you know? I’m not going to tell you how to do your job. You can write anything you want. This is America.”

In response, Schupak noted, “Well, we can all interpret it differently. That’s not how I saw it.” Morikawa acknowledged this but suggested there could be another perspective. “I think people could read it that way. So I’ll just leave it behind. I knew I would have media availability in two and a half hours.”

This exchange comes at a time when Morikawa is grappling with his own high standards on the course. In five tournaments with Greiner, he didn’t place higher than T-17. He hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since the Zozo Championships in October 2023.
