Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez, and VIP Guests Driven to Leave Venice Wedding Venue Due to Growing Protests

Bezos and Sanchez’s Wedding Faces Protests in Venice

Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, are experiencing heightened security measures in Venice, Italy, due to protests surrounding their upcoming wedding. The couple is now entirely enclosed by former shipyards amid growing concerns about the demonstrations.

Around 200 to 250 notable guests are expected to attend the celebration, leading to accusations from Bezos and Sanchez that Venice has transformed into a playground for the wealthy. Reports indicate a landscape of gondolas and historic palazzos has become a backdrop for the couple’s high-profile event.

Amid these festivities, some protesters expressed dissatisfaction with the idea of an extravagant wedding being held in a city rich in culture. Additionally, some have voiced objection to Bezos due to his newfound support for Donald Trump.

The couple originally intended to hold their wedding reception at the Scola Grande della Misericordia but have since shifted the venue to Arsensare, a location that is completely surrounded by water and inaccessible by bridge.

With this venue switch, protesters are declaring a significant victory, claiming they have influenced the couple and their guests to leave the city center. One protest leader, Tomaso Kacciari, characterized it as a notable achievement, emphasizing that despite lacking resources, they managed to alter the plans of a powerful figure.

Despite this sentiment, protests are set to continue this Saturday, with organizers vowing to make the wedding a challenging experience for attendees.

However, not everyone is supportive of the protesters’ actions. Luca Zaire, president of Veneto where Venice is located, has criticized the demonstrations, highlighting that the wedding could bring over $55 million in revenue to local businesses. He suggested that the presence of a renowned individual celebrating in Venice reflects a commitment to the city’s well-being.

On a different note, Venice City Councilman Simone Venturini dismissed the protests as trivial, arguing that the demonstrators do not represent the broader community. He noted that the event is exclusive to a relatively small number of guests, all of whom would contribute positively to the local economy.

The lavish three-day wedding celebration is set to take place later this week, although the exact dates remain under wraps. Reports suggest that guests, including Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, have already arrived in Italy, with Belgian designer Diane von Furstenberg also expected to attend.

Rumors swirl around a guest list that may include celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, and Kim Kardashian. The wedding planning company involved insists that claims of a grand takeover of the city are unfounded, emphasizing their commitment to minimizing disturbances to both local residents and visitors.

They mentioned that long before the protests began, efforts were underway to ensure that the wedding would have a minimal negative impact on Venice and its people.
