Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) faced criticism for disparaging Melania Trump’s modeling career during a heated House Judiciary Committee hearing. She labeled the first lady as a “disgrace,” suggesting her past was not worthy of any honor.
While discussing immigration policies, Crockett turned the conversation personal, challenging Republican lawmakers on their stance regarding the visa status of the president’s family.
“We’re discussing integrity here, so it’s puzzling why my Republican colleagues aren’t addressing the integrity of the president’s family visa situation,” she remarked.
Continuing her critique, she said, “Melania, the first lady—the model—I’m not talking about someone of the caliber of Tyra Banks or Cindy Crawford. I applied for an EB-1 visa and received one,” she stated, hinting at the nature of Melania’s immigration.
Melania moved to the U.S. on an EB-1 visa, known as the “Einstein visa,” back in the 1990s before becoming a citizen in 2006.
Crockett, known for her provocative comments during committee meetings, described the criteria for obtaining the Einstein visa, stating, “To qualify, there should be significant achievements, like winning a Nobel Prize or having extraordinary expertise in various fields.” She added, “As far as I can tell, the First Lady doesn’t hold any such accolades.”
She further expressed, “We don’t need Einstein to figure out that something doesn’t add up here.”
Immediate backlash followed, with many social media users criticizing Crockett. Comments ranged from accusations of jealousy to outright defense of Melania.
One critic asked, “Can Jasmine Crockett speak five languages like Melania? No? Then she should just be quiet.”
Another user remarked, “What could she possibly compare Melania to? Melania has far more class than Crockett has in her entire being!”
