Salesforce CEO Discusses AI’s Role in Workplaces

Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, recently shared insights about how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the work landscape, especially in software companies. During an appearance on Bloomberg’s show, he mentioned that AI handles approximately 30-50% of his responsibilities at Salesforce.

Benioff explained that the use of AI is particularly evident in automating various tasks, including engineering, coding, and customer service. He believes that this trend is likely to continue at Salesforce and emphasizes the need for everyone to adapt to the notion that AI can perform certain functions faster than humans, potentially allowing people to take on higher-value roles.

While acknowledging that AI isn’t always perfectly accurate—stating that it operates at around 93% accuracy with Salesforce’s technology—he noted that the margin of error is even larger for many other vendors lacking sufficient data. Although some companies are embracing AI, concerns linger about its capability to replace human jobs entirely.

Benioff characterized the rise of AI as part of a “digital labor revolution,” highlighting a potential economic impact estimated between $3-12 trillion. He believes this shift will encompass AI agents and robots, demonstrating the vast potential of AI-powered tools within various industries.

This technological surge has gained momentum since OpenAI launched the ChatGPT chatbot in late 2022, prompting significant investments and innovations in AI. Salesforce, for instance, provides solutions like AgentForce, which leverage AI to enhance business operations.
