Rosie O’Donnell Talks Mental Health and Move to Ireland

In a recent appearance on “The Chris Cuomo Project” podcast, former comedian and talk show host Rosie O’Donnell expressed some deep frustrations regarding her mental health, attributing her struggles to President Donald Trump. She suggested that his presidency led her to unhealthy habits, such as overeating and drinking too much.

O’Donnell recently relocated to Ireland after Trump’s November election victory. She opened up about her feelings on the podcast, stating, “I was very, very depressed. I was overeating. I was overdrinking. It hurt my heart that Americans believed the lies about him. And then it broke my heart to be in a business that creates and sells those lies for profit.”

On the podcast, she recounted an incident around the time of the election where she and her nonbinary child faced ridicule from Trump supporters. “People in CVS said to me and my autistic 12-year-old, ‘Hey, Rosie, Trump won. Ha ha.’ One cursed at us,” she claimed.

O’Donnell described her move to Ireland as an act of “self-preservation,” aiming to distance herself from MAGA supporters and Trump. “I find myself feeling safe,” she remarked. “There’s no MAGA support here.” She also noted a significant cultural difference, mentioning how celebrities in Ireland aren’t regarded as superior. “Coming home here felt like coming home,” she added, sharing a heartfelt comment from her daughter: “Mommy, you can be a normal person here.”

In a light-hearted moment, she shared an encounter at a local pub, where an Irish man bought her pints of Guinness and asked if she’d come to Ireland because of her dislike for Trump. O’Donnell didn’t hesitate in her response, affirming, “Yes, sir, it is.”

“To be a good parent to this 12-year-old child that I’ve got to be around for 20 more years, I need to take care of myself,” she emphasized.
