Ex-first lady addresses marriage issues rumors, says 'we're 60'

In a recent interview, Michelle Obama dismissed rumors about a potential divorce from former President Barack Obama. She noted, somewhat humorously, how the lack of public appearances together seems to spark such speculation. “The reality is, we’re not documenting every moment of our lives on social media,” she remarked, playfully pointing out that at their age, it’s just not something they prioritize.

In her conversation on NPR’s “Wild Card” podcast, she discussed the intense public scrutiny her family has faced since leaving the White House. Earlier in the year, her choices not to attend certain high-profile events, like former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration, led to talk about marital troubles. She clarified her stance, indicating that she makes decisions based on her own desires and ambitions. “I’m taking ownership of what I want to do,” she explained, emphasizing her right to follow her own path rather than societal expectations.

She further reflected on the misconceptions people have about her personal life, saying, “If I had issues with my husband, it wouldn’t be a secret. Everyone, including my brother, would know.” Michelle has addressed divorce rumors before, asserting that she doesn’t shy away from public discussions concerning their marriage.

Michelle also conveyed that, while she will continue to utilize her platform, she has moved beyond politics and isn’t looking to support other candidates. “If it’s not interesting to me, I won’t do it,” she stated, indicating a desire for authenticity in her choices.

Ultimately, Michelle Obama makes it clear: despite the rumors, her relationship with Barack remains strong, and the couple’s bond is not defined by public perception.
