Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez got married in Venice, Italy, on Friday, surrounded by a glamorous array of guests from the world of sports, entertainment, and business.
The couple, with Bezos at 61 and Sanchez at 55, kicked off their extravagant three-day wedding celebration on Thursday.
The invite list for this so-called “Century Wedding” included a slew of high-profile names—Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Chris, Kylie, and Kendall Jenner, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom, Tom Brady, and Leonardo DiCaprio, among others.
Oddly enough, the lavish celebration was met with protests. Locals and activists expressed their frustrations about such wealth being displayed in a city like Venice.
One protest featured a massive banner reading “1% will ruin the world,” draped over the iconic Cathedral of Saint Mark. The “No Space for Bezos Campaign” also made its presence known with signs and stickers throughout the city prior to the wedding.
In St. Mark’s Square, Greenpeace members showcased a large banner with Bezos’ laughing face. Still, the protests didn’t seem to affect the festivities.
Veneto Governor Luca Zaia shared that the wedding bash could end up costing around $50 million. However, details on the expenditures were unclear.
Five of Venice’s luxury hotels were booked for the occasion, including the impressive Cipriani situated near St. Mark’s Square. Bezos and Sanchez reportedly stayed at Aman, where rooms overlooking the Grand Canal start at around 4,000 euros per night.
While there was a lot of buzz about the wedding, rumors circulated that the couple may have already married earlier in the United States, following a multi-million-dollar prenup agreement.
This marks the second marriage for both Bezos and Sanchez. Bezos, worth approximately $225 billion, finalized his divorce from Mackenzie Scott in 2019, the same year Sanchez ended her marriage to talent agent Patrick Whitesell.
The couple became engaged in May 2023, with Bezos presenting Sanchez a stunning 30-carat diamond that cost between $3-5 million. They’ve been frequently spotted on extravagant vacations together, including time spent aboard Bezos’ $500 million superyacht, Koru.
Sanchez has a background in journalism and has worked as a special correspondent for various media outlets, often making headlines for her stylish choices.
