Brian Wilson’s Cause of Death Revealed
The cause of death for Brian Wilson, co-founder of The Beach Boys, who passed away on June 11th at 82, has been disclosed.
According to the death certificate from the Los Angeles County Clinic, Wilson’s primary cause of death is reported as “respiratory arrest.” Contributing factors included multiple infections and chronic kidney disease.
Respiratory arrest is a critical condition where breathing has ceased but the heart still beats. The American Heart Association states that respiratory arrest is often the leading cause of cardiac arrest.
The infections noted in Wilson’s death certificate were sepsis and cystitis. Additional factors listed included neurodegenerative disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, and chronic respiratory failure.
Interestingly, the document also indicated that no autopsy would take place.
Last year, Wilson’s family informed the public that he had been struggling with dementia and had been placed under court guardianship in May 2024, managed by his long-time representative and manager.
Shortly before his death, his family released a statement saying, “We are heartbroken to announce the death of our beloved father, Brian Wilson.”
“We are speechless right now,” they continued, requesting privacy as they cope with their loss. “We will find ourselves sharing our grief with the world.”
Former President Donald Trump also acknowledged Wilson’s passing, describing him as a “true musical genius.”
Wilson played bass alongside his brothers Carl and Dennis, who contributed lead guitar and drums, respectively, achieving fame in the 1960s.
He was the eldest of the three brothers, with Carl having died from lung cancer in 1998 at 51, and Dennis passing away in 1983 at 39 in a tragic drowning incident.
