Brooks Koepka’s Turbulent Day at LIV Golf Dallas
For Brooks Koepka, the day was anything but smooth.
During the opening round of the LIV Golf Dallas Tournament, he struggled significantly, displaying his frustration when he smashed a teebox marker before leaving the course, citing illness. It was a tough front nine, where he racked up six over par, including triple bogeys on both the fifth and seventh holes.
His temper flared on the ninth hole after an errant drive. Koepka slammed his club into the ground and, in a moment of anger, struck a teebox marker that flew towards the crowd, thankfully missing any injuries.
Despite the outburst, his troubles didn’t end there. He bogeyed the 10th and 13th holes, continuing to have a rough outing. Ultimately, he withdrew from the tournament on the 14th hole, clearly unwell.
In light of his withdrawal, LIV Golf announced that Luis Currera would take his place on the Smash GC team. They mentioned that while Koepka’s individual scores wouldn’t count, he could still return later in the weekend if he chose to.
Reflecting on recent times, Koepka acknowledged that he’s faced a challenging period. Missing out on cuts at both the Masters and the PGA Championship, he’s now gone nine consecutive majors without a top-10 finish.
“From the first weekend of April until about early June, you probably didn’t want to be around me,” Koepka shared earlier this month. “It really got to me. It was frustrating.”
As the LIV Golf Dallas event continues over the weekend, many are curious if Koepka will make a comeback after his withdrawal.
Now 35, he has been competing in the LIV circuit for three years.
