Reporter Faces Serious Charges
According to the District of Columbia U.S. Lawyers’ Office, a reporter, who is also a Pulitzer Prize winner, has been arrested and charged with allegedly possessing child pornography.
Thomas Fam Regro appeared in U.S. District Court on Friday after his arrest on Thursday. The arrest followed a search of his home, where Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents discovered “11 videos depicting child sexual abuse materials” on his work computer, as noted in a press release.
In the press release, it was mentioned that on June 26, 2025, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Regro’s residence and seized various electronic devices. Upon reviewing his work laptop, agents found a folder containing the 11 videos of child sexual abuse material.
During the search, agents also found what appeared to be hard drive fragments in the hallway outside the room where Regro’s laptop was located.
Regro is recognized for being part of a team that received the Pulitzer Award in 2018 for their reporting concerning Roy Moore’s Senate candidacy. As the assistant director of video, he led an award-winning group of video journalists across various subjects, including national news, climate, and technology. Regro joined the video team as a breaking-news editor in 2013 and became a senior producer in 2015. He earned promotion to executive producer in 2021 and also worked as a news aide and copy editor for the publication earlier in his career.
A spokesman for the publication stated that Regro has been “placed on vacation.” According to additional reports, the situation is under continued scrutiny.
