Paige Bueckers’ Memorable Moment with Kyrie Irving
Paige Bueckers recently experienced something many athletes dream about. During a game where the Wings faced off against the Fever and ended with a 94-86 loss, she got to share a moment with her idol, Dallas celebrity Kyrie Irving.
Although Bueckers didn’t have the chance to chat with the nine-time All-Star before the match, she was thrilled to see him at the American Airlines Center, where he attended the game with his daughter. This was actually Bueckers’ first time meeting Irving.
The interaction has sparked quite a bit of excitement in the basketball community.
“Meeting someone I’ve admired since I was a kid was surreal,” Bueckers reflected after the game. “For him to support us and women’s basketball means a lot. He’s like an older brother to me, and finally meeting him was a great moment.”
Bueckers had an impressive outing, finishing the game with 27 points, six assists, two steals, and two blocks over 36 minutes of playing time. She shot 9-for-18 from the field, was perfect from the free-throw line at 7-for-7, and made two of three attempts from beyond the arc.
Her performance made her the first player in WNBA history to achieve at least 25 points, five assists, two steals, two blocks, and zero turnovers in a game. Throughout the night, Irving watched her closely and seemed to particularly enjoy her fourth-quarter play as the Wings tried to catch up to the Fever.
After the final buzzer, Bueckers and Irving shared a hug on the court and were later seen walking together under the arena.
She also took a moment to pose for a photo with Irving’s daughter, Cade. It appeared to be a day full of memorable experiences for both the athletes.
In a heartfelt gesture, Bueckers gifted a jersey to Irving, who she mentioned is “as defensible” as a 2016 NBA champion. Bueckers expressed, “I want to be as vulnerable as possible. I feel Kyrie is one of the most unstoppable players in the game, and being strong in scoring on all three levels is essential.”
