Gypsy Rose Blanchard completes her parole and shares that she is taking back control of her life

Gypsy Rose Blanchard shared on Wednesday that she has finished her parole, expressing her accountability for her mother’s death in 2015 and revealing her desire to start fresh.

“I’m ready to reclaim my life,” Blanchard stated in an Instagram post. “Accepting my sentence meant accepting the consequences of my actions. I’ve served my time.”

“That’s been my responsibility, and it’s something I’ve carried with me for years,” she continued. “I haven’t borrowed any more in the past.”

In 2016, Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, claiming years of abuse and isolation were the backdrop to her actions.

Experts have suggested that she might have been a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy due to her mother’s treatment, which included unnecessary medical interventions and reliance on a wheelchair.

Her ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, is currently imprisoned for stabbing Dee Blanchard to death. In her remarks, Blanchard characterized him as “deeply disturbed,” noting that he chose to commit the act on his own.

“He was aware of the difference between right and wrong,” she noted. “Despite any unintended manipulation on my part, Nicholas made a choice that night, and he must face the consequences of that decision.”

She expressed profound regret for the pain inflicted on her mother’s family.

“I understand that there is nothing I can say to erase the trauma or bring Dee Dee back. However, I genuinely apologize from the depths of my heart,” she remarked.

Blanchard also addressed Godejohn’s actions, suggesting they stemmed from manipulation rather than a purely malicious intent.

“Such behaviors often arise from trauma, fear of abandonment, or a lack of emotional resources. The key issue is the intent behind those actions,” she stated.

In closing, Blanchard emphasized her intention to move on from her past.

“I refuse to bear the weight of Godejohn’s actions anymore. I have taken responsibility for my life,” she wrote. “This next phase will focus on healing, growing, and reclaiming my freedom. I’m looking forward with clarity and peace.”

Blanchard was sentenced to ten years but was released in early December 2023. Her story has attracted national attention and has been featured in documentaries and dramatizations on Hulu.

Since her release, she divorced her husband while still incarcerated, published a memoir titled “My Time,” and has since welcomed her boyfriend Ken Ulker and a baby girl.
