Trump plays golf with Republican leaders while Senate aims to approve bill before July 4

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump spent the day golfing with several Republican leaders, including Senators Eric Schmidt, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, according to confirmed sources.

This gathering comes as Republican senators push to pass the “Big Beautiful Bill” by a self-imposed deadline of July 4th. The White House recently approved updates to the bill and emphasized the importance of its passage, labeling failures to secure the budget as “the ultimate betrayal.”

Graham took to social media to share details of the golf outing and expressed a hopeful outlook for the bill’s approval. He also revealed parts of the large bill the night before.

Within the GOP and the White House, various factions have discussed key issues, including adjustments to the limits on state and local tax deductions.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent underscored the importance of passing the bill timely. He communicated with Senate Republicans during a closed luncheon, highlighting how the president’s proposed tariffs could stabilize businesses. “We need certainty,” he remarked, emphasizing that having this bill signed before July 4th would bolster tax predictability and potentially enhance economic growth in the third quarter.
