Trump is hopeful for a ceasefire in Gaza "in the coming week."

Trump Optimistic About Ceasefire in Gaza

Former President Donald Trump expressed hope for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, suggesting that a resolution might come within the week.

While discussing peace agreements his administration facilitated, Trump revealed that he believes the possibility of an agreement between the two sides is closer than ever.

“I think it’s close. I just spoke with some of the people involved,” Trump mentioned. “We think within the next week, we’re going to get a ceasefire.”

He also highlighted the humanitarian aid the United States is providing to Palestinians in Gaza.

“We’re supplying, as you know, a lot of money and a lot of food to that area because we have to, I mean, you have to. In theory, we’re not involved in it, but we’re involved because people are dying,” he said. “We’re working on Gaza, trying to get it taken care of and again, a lot of food has been sent there. And other countries throughout the world should be helping also.”

Research from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine indicated that around 64,000 Palestinians died in the initial year of the conflict, with a significant portion of these fatalities being women, children, and the elderly.

On the Israeli side, over 860 soldiers have lost their lives since the onset of the war, in addition to approximately 1,200 Israelis killed on October 7, 2023, by Hamas militants.

Currently, about 50 Israeli hostages remain with Hamas in Gaza, with estimates suggesting that 20-24 are still alive.

During his Friday interview, Trump remarked on the enhanced relationships the U.S. has with its adversaries, claiming these improved dynamics are a contrast to the previous Biden administration.

“Vladimir Putin made some very nice statements today,” Trump said. “Look, he respects our country again. He didn’t respect it a year ago. I can tell you right now, but Putin respects our country and, President Xi of China respects our country. And Kim Jong Un respects. They respect our country again.”

Moreover, Trump called for action in a follow-up post on Truth Social, urging: “MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!! DJT.”

His renewed push for a ceasefire comes after the “12 Day War” between Israel and Iran, during which the U.S. carried out bombings on Iranian nuclear facilities before negotiating a ceasefire.
