82-Year-Old Victim Passes Away From Injuries Sustained in Boulder Cocktail Assault

Molotov Cocktail Attack in Boulder Claims Life

An 82-year-old woman succumbed to injuries from a Molotov cocktail attack in Boulder, Colorado, with authorities announcing that additional charges will be brought against the suspect. The incident took place on June 1 during a march by Hamas aimed at raising awareness of Israeli hostages.

Karen Diamond was among 29 victims, and tragically, she was one of 13 individuals who sustained injuries from the attack. According to a press release from the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, her death is a heartbreaking loss felt by family and friends.

District Attorney Michael Dougherty expressed the community’s sorrow, stating, “This horrifying attack now claims the lives of innocent people loved by family and friends. Our hearts are with the Diamond family during these incredibly difficult times. Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, and their community.”

The DA’s office is increasing the charges against the suspect, 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman. Currently facing two counts of first-degree murder, Soliman is accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail while chanting “free Palestine.”

Soliman’s charges now include one count of first-degree murder under extreme indifference theory, in addition to 66 counts linked to 14 newly identified victims, which shockingly includes a dog.

If found guilty of first-degree murder, Soliman could face life imprisonment without parole. The DA’s office emphasized its commitment to addressing anti-Semitism and hate-related acts through collaboration with federal, state, and local partners.

On Friday, Soliman pleaded not guilty to 12 federal hate crime charges. Federal prosecutors allege violations related to causing injury due to “actual race, color, religion, or country of origin.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15, according to the release.
